Airport Officials: No Shots Fired In LAX Scare

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — An investigation into a false report of a shooter inside Los Angeles International Airport that sparked panic in several terminals has revealed no shots were actually fired, officials said Monday.

The incident was first reported around 8:40 p.m. Sunday when officers responded to Terminal 7 to check on reports of a man dressed in black, wearing a mask and armed with a sword, according to Los Angeles Airport Police. Officer Robert Pedregon.

Authorities approached the man with weapons drawn out of an abundance of caution, but he was detained and then released after police determined the sword was plastic.

A short time later, police began receiving reports of an active shooter in Terminal 8 after word spread quickly through the terminals by word-of-mouth, social media, Pedregon said. Additional calls were made to LAX police about an active shooter in other terminals, with some reporting having heard gunshots.
