When the people who brought us Spaghettini in Seal Beach decided that they wanted to open a world class restaurant in Beverly Hills, they found out right away that it was more than just a notion.
To make an impact in one of America’s most famous locales requires the knack for coming up with a unique concept in order to get the attention of the people who live there. Cary Hardwick and Laurie Cisneros have managed to do just that with Citizen.
The restaurant opened about five weeks ago. The reviews are in and they are glowing. They’ve already made Tasting Table’s list of the “Top 20 Restaurants You Need to Try Right Now” and Thrillist says they are one of “The Best LA Restaurants That Opened In July.” Los Angeles Magazine says Citizen is “Where To Eat Now” and Eater LA raves “Citizen is a Cocktail-Loving Good Time in Beverly Hills.” Cary and Laurie had a lot to say about their new restaurant too when they stopped by our studios to chat about Citizen.
The critics love Citizen. The restaurant is getting accolades for its décor, it’s menu and the very cool patio. Whether you’re indoors or not, it feels like one space. Cary says the unique brick wall that is a work of art is a constant conversation piece.
The only sign on the exterior of the building is about 24 inches and it simply says Citizen, because Cary says the real sign is their incredible patio with fireplace and comfortable sofas and chairs that make you feel like you’re at someone’s home. People are also talking about the menu, concocted by popular San Francisco chef Scott Howard. The burgers are very popular and the options are diverse, from halibut tacos to mushroom fritters and everything in between.
Cary and Laurie say that the vibe at Citizen is all about community, sharing and just being social. Not only are the critics into it, Citizen has four and a half stars on Yelp and a lot of foodies are stopping by to check it out. They started serving lunch this week so maybe we’ll run into you there real soon.
