There’s a new musical coming to movie theaters this fall and it features Ryan Gosling singing.
La La Land pays tribute to the golden age of movie musicals by focusing on a jazz pianist (Gosling) and his crushing love affair with an actress, played by Emma Stone.
Gosling will perform the track “City of Stars” in the film and fans got a preview of it today via the movie’s trailer. The tune begins with him at the piano and a whistle, lending it a sombre air as he contemplates his budding relationship. “Is this the start of wonderful/ Or one more dream that I cannot make true?” Gosling sings.
La La Land will not be released until December but fans can download the track now.
This marks the third film Gosling and Stone have appeared in together. They previously starred in Crazy, Stupid Love (2011) and Gangster Squad (2013). Gosling, too, is no stranger to singing. 2009 saw the first (and only) release from his band Dead Man’s Bones and he sang “You Always Hurt the One You Love” in the 2010 movie Blue Valentine (2010).
La La Land, directed by Damien Chazelle (Whiplash) will premiere at the Venice Film Festival in August, check out the trailer below.
