PALM SPRINGS (CBSLA.com/AP) — A moderate earthquake felt from San Diego to West Los Angeles hit the Palm Springs area early Friday.
The U.S. Geological Survey says the magnitude 5.2 temblor struck at 1:04 a.m. PDT and was centered about 20 miles south of Rancho Mirage.
Seismologist and USGS Scientist Emerita Lucy Jones said the quake was followed by dozens of aftershocks.
According to Jones, the quake occurred along the San Jacinto fault, which is historically the most active fault in the Southland.
