Often need to travel alone for work? Sometimes feel lonely on the road? A quick and easy remedy is to simply go to a museum. Researchers at University College London Hospital found that museum visits lead to a reduction in social isolation. They also decrease anxiety and increase self-esteem.
Of course, this also works in your home town, too. After that big break-up, put down your tiny violin and go find inspiration and boost your self-esteem at a nearby museum.
And if you think “stuffy” when you think “museum,” not so fast! New York City proudly welcomes tourists to its Museum of Sex; the Trash Museum is located in tidy Connecticut (weirdly refreshing); and now San Francisco reportedly wants to host the George Lucas Museum, but they have stiff competition. SFGate.com says the city’s mayor plans to send a letter to the movie mogul inviting him to consider building his museum in the city by the bay. But L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti has come up with his own possible site for the museum in our arts-burgeoning downtown.
Right now Lucas has plans to house the museum in Chicago, but it looks like those plans may fall through because of a lawsuit. Wherever it winds up, the museum will feature the filmmaker’s private collection of movie artifacts. And it’ll definitely be the one museum your kids will beg you to take them to!
