Brian McKnight is going country this Christmas. The singer is one of the stars of the upcoming Lifetime original movie A Country Christmas Story, which follows a young Appalachian mountain girl as she pursues her dream of becoming a country star against the wishes of her mother, according to the film’s website.
Brian recently stopped into the CBS 2 news station this week with co-star Megyn Price to talk more about the film. Brian stars as the girl’s musician father, Danny, who is estranged from his wife played by Price. The movie follows the young girl, played by Desiree Ross, and her journey to compete on stage at Dollywood in a contest held by Dolly Parton to become the next great country star.
In the film, Brian’s character and his on screen daughter reunite through music, which leads them to uncover the musical legacy of African-Americans in the world of country music.
“For me, it was great to see this story with the dad and the daughter for me and my own daughters – I can pull from that,” Brian said in his interview with CBS 2. “It’s a nice holiday family story for everybody.”
A Country Christmas Story premieres this Sat., Nov. 9 at 8 p.m. on Lifetime. Watch a preview of the movie below.
