We love movies, domestic and international, at the WAVE.
Well, here’s something to celebrate!
It’s your ticket to four days of bliss: the 7th Annual L.A. Greek Film Festival Thursday, June 6th through Sunday, June 9th!
The American love affair with Greek themes in cinema began with the triumphant “Never on Sunday” starring Melina Mercouri. Elia Kazan’s “America America” opened the door for the world-wide popularity of “Zorba the Greek” starring Anthony Quinn, and it reached its ultimate synthesis of Greek heritage and American comedy thanks to Nia Vardalos and “My Big Fat Greek Wedding.”
Slowly, Greek cinema with its wide spectrum from action to comedy and drama to animation, is getting wider distribution in America.
And, surprisingly, despite the fiscal crisis in Greece, this seventh year of the L.A.G.F.F. will offer some of its most ambitious events, premieres, shorts, and documentaries yet!
What may be the Festival’s finest year includes films from Greece and international filmmakers of Greek descent who are breaking new ground at Cannes, Venice, and Sundance, and now in Beverly Hills at the Writers Guild Theatre and the Real D Screening Room.
L.A.G.F.F. stars have included award-winning directors and filmmakers Alexander Payne, Penelope Spheeris, Phedon Papamichael, Olympia Dukakis, and studio executives Jim Gianopulos, the chairman of Fox Filmed Entertainment, as well as Kary Antholis, now at Cinemax.
Preview all four days from opening night to the closing Orpheus Awards plus all the films and panels in-between on their website.
Become a VIP and purchase a Gold Pass for Thursday through Sunday!
