The Wonderful Health Benefits Of Strawberries

This weekend is all about sweet and delicious strawberries as the annual California Strawberry Festival celebrates its 30th anniversary with berry-themed rides, contests, games and of course an endless supply of tasty treats!

In honor of this beloved festival this Saturday and Sunday, we’re taking a look at all the wonderful benefits eating strawberries has offer. We all know they taste delicious, but the red fruit also contains many nutrient-rich benefits to our health that makes for the perfect guilt-free summer snack!

Take a look below at just some of the many wonderful impacts strawberries have on our health and well being according to Best Health Mag.

Boosts immunity — Move over oranges, strawberries are another excellent way to get your daily dose of vitamin C to help boost your immunity and fight off illnesses. According to dietitian Madeleine Edwards, “one serving of strawberries contains 51.5 mg of vitamin C—about half of your daily requirement. Double a serving to one cup and get 100 percent.”

Helps fight cancer — Strawberries contain both the vitamin C antioxidant that boosts the immune system and a phytochemical called ellagic acid that aids in warding off cancer cells. “Ellagic acid has been shown to yield anti-cancer properties like suppressing cancer cell growth,” says Edwards.

Helps ward off wrinkles — Strawberries may be the all natural way to the fountain of youth. The vitamin C in the red fruit is essential to the production of collagen, which helps to improve skin’s elasticity and resilience. Eating vitamin C-rich fruits helps skin keep its elasticity to keep looking younger longer.

Aids in weight control — Strawberries are like nature’s healthy candy – they taste sweet, but are low in calories, sodium and sugar, which makes for a great fat-free snack to help maintain a healthy weight.

Promotes pre-natal health — Strawberries contain the essential B-vitamin Folate, which helps in the early stages of development of a baby’s skull, brain and spinal cord during pregnancy.

Get your fill of strawberries at the California Strawberry Festival on May 18 & 19 from 10 am – 6:30 pm at the Strawberry Meadows of College Park in Oxnard. Get tickets and details here!
