As the “Queen of Funk and Soul” celebrates her 40th career anniversary in music with a new album and tour, the incomparable Chaka Khan continues to check off even more milestone moments this year.
This summer, Chaka will be Apollo Theater’s guest of honor as this year’s inductee to the historic New York City theater’s Hall of Fame on June 10.
Chaka’s spanning four-decade career will be honored by performances from Patti LaBelle and Mary J. Blige. Also scheduled to appear at the gala include Emmy award-winning actress Sarah Jessica Parker and Tony award winner Jennifer Holliday, with more to be announced.
The Apollo Theater holds this annual gala in effort to raise money to benefit its non-profit programs including performing arts presentations, family and educational programs, and to fund new work from emerging artists.
Past artists to be inducted to the Hall of Fame include iconic acts like Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, Quincy Jones, Lionel Richie and Patti LaBelle.
