Last Thursday, I attended the star-studded Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live, which featured outstanding performances and even a surprise appearance from the one and only Oprah Winfrey.
Though the event itself was a night to remember, the real highlight of the evening was meeting a out of town visitor from Texas named Josh Coburn.
Josh, who serves in the 3rd Bat/4th Regiment of the Texas State Guard, caught my friend Karen and I by surprise at the ceremony when he randomly approached us for a picture. He explained that he was trying to take 100 pictures with people while he was at the ceremony as a bet with his wife, and we were numbers 75 and 76.
When I asked him what the bet was all about, Josh told me it was something that started as a joke with his wife that “morphed a little out of control.”
“My wife was very jealous that I was going to L.A. That’s more of her thing she would be into, not me. So she had said to take lots of pictures, which I don’t do. I told her I would take no less then 100 and she said ‘no way.’ So there you have it – I love nothing more then proving her wrong,” he laughed.
Sure, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony featured stellar tributes and performances to some legendary artists, but the thing that stuck out as most memorable in my mind was meeting a new friend and helping him win his bet.
