Chris Tucker’s year just keeps getting better and better; after breaking his five-year film hiatus with a role in the Oscar-nominated Silver Linings Playbook, Tucker is on to his next major role – award show host.

It was announced Tuesday that the Rush Hour star has been named host of the 2013 BET Awards airing live June 30th from Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre L.A. Live.

“We cannot wait for Chris to set fire to the BET Awards stage with his unique brand of mayhem,” said Stephen Hill, President of Music Programming and Specials, in an official annoucement. “We’ve been chasing him for years and we couldn’t be happier that he is hosting the show in this special year: the year we embark on the three-day-long BET Experience.”

Tucker joins ranks of such elite hosts in the past as Queen Latifah, Kevin Hart, Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith and Samuel L. Jackson. With comedic skills, we’re sure Tucker will have no difficulty in bringing the laughs on show night, and is excited about joining this opportunity.

“I am honored to be asked to host this year’s BET Awards,” says Tucker. “I’m looking forward to being part of a really great show.”

This year’s ceremony caps off the three-day BET Experience music fest, which features headlining performances by Beyonce, Snoop Dogg and more.
