All throughout March, we’re highlighting the accomplishments of women who made an impact on the world in celebration of Women’s History Month!

American novelist Zora Neale Hurston was an important figure in the “Harlem Renaissance” of the 1920s and 30s. Her fascination with folklore, magic and dialect reflected in her novels, particularly in “Mules and men”, “Moses” and “Man of the Mountain”.

Her best known work was probably “Their Eyes Were Watching God”, which Oprah Winfrey made into a movie starring Halle Berry in 2005.

Here’s a memorable quote from Zora:

“Sometimes, I feel discriminated against, but it does not make me angry. It merely astonishes me. How can any deny themselves the pleasure of my company? It’s beyond me.”
