94.7 The WAVE proudly celebrates Black History Month and is pleased to honor Rickey Minor.

Did you know that one of today’s most popular musical directors learned to play music by teaching himself? Well it’s true! Raised in South Central Los Angeles, the hard work paid off for visionary composer Rickey Minor.

Now best known as the bandleader for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Minor has served as musical director on tour for superstars like Whitney Houston, Ray Charles, Christina Aguilera, and Beyoncé, and has also worked on TV programs like the Grammy Awards, American Idol, and even the Super Bowl! Minor’s amazing musical journey was published in his book “There’s No Traffic on the Extra Mile: Lessons on the Road from Dreams to Destiny.”
