After 24 years since the founding of World AIDS Day in 1988 to unite people across the globe in the fight against HIV/AIDS, actress Sheryl Lee Ralph has been leading the awareness efforts here in Los Angeles with her DIVA Foundation.
This year, the foundation is celebrating its 22nd Annual Divas Simply Singing benefit concert in correlation with World AIDS Day to unite in the fight against the disease with the power of music from a star-studded line up.
Featured in this year’s Divas Simply Singing line up includes Oleta Adams, Faith Evans, A’ngela Winbush, Tramaine Hawkins, Lalah Hathaway, Jenifer Lewis, Kristinia DeBarge, and DIVA Discovery artists – The Hill Sisters.
Also joining the efforts as presenters for the event include stars Angela Bassett, Rolonda Watts, Malcolm Jamal Warner, Flex Alexander, MC Lyte among others.
According to the press release, “all of the concert’s participants’ lives have been touched and affected by HIV/AIDS and are uniting in song to raise awareness.”
The Divas Simply Singing is the longest running benefit concert in the country in conjunction with World AIDS Day and utilizes star power to help raise money, awareness and erase stigma associated with patients who’ve contracted the disease. Proceeds from past benefit concerts have benefited organizations like Project Angel Food, Caring for Babies with AIDS and the Black AIDS Institute among others.
The Divas Simply Singing concert takes place on World AIDS Day this Dec. 1 at Club Nokia L.A. Live at 7:30 p.m. For tickets and more information visit clubnokia.com and join the global effort in the fight against AIDS one song at a time!
