Iconic funk bassist [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Bootsy Collins[/lastfm] announced to his Facebook friends all over the world about the health news of his good friend, soul singer/songwriter, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Bobby Womack[/lastfm].
Bootsy wrote a message on Sunday revealing that Bobby has been diagnosed with stage one colon cancer, but writes that his spirits are still up despite the news.
“I JUST SPOKE TO OUR FRIEND BOBBY WOMACK. He Wanted You All to Know That He Loves You & Thxs for the Prayers,” Collins wrote on his Facebook page. “Docs Says He Is In 1st Stage of Colon Cancer, He is Very Up Beat About His Future, we laughed & joked before we hung up.”
Bobby was hospitalized earlier in March in Houston after suffering severe shortness of breath and was scheduled for a minor heart procedure.
Bobby is known for his biggest hits, “Woman’s Gotta Have It” and “If You Think You’re Lonely Now” and has a large body of work writing for numerous artists. Both his solo achievements and early work with his family band The Valentinos helped him get inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009.
