Two music giants went head to head in the same category for Best Original Song for the 2012 Golden Globes on Sunday, and while both [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Madonna[/lastfm] and Sir [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Elton John[/lastfm] are extremely talented artists, it seems the two don’t play nice together.
Elton let his true feelings be known about being nominated in the same category and eventually bested by Madge for Best Song, first sparking the feud on the red carpet before the show saying that she had “no (explicative) chance” of winning. So what did Madonna have to say about her rival?
Madonna picked up the Globe for Best Original Song for her song “Masterpiece” from her directorial debut W.E., saying about her competition with Elton before the show, “may the best man win.”
Well, it seems her win didn’t sit well with Elton or his husband David Furnish, who also vented his feelings about the snub on his Facebook.
“Madonna. Best song???? F**k off!!!” Furnish wrote on Facebook, according to TMZ. “Madonna winning Best Original Song truly shows how these awards have nothing to do with merit. Her acceptance speech was embarrassing in its narcissism.”
But through all the heated exchanges, Madonna seems to be taking it all in stride, noting that this isn’t the first time Elton has gotten upset with her. Back in 2005, Elton made a similar remark as Furnish when Madonna beat him out for Best Live Act at the GQ Awards, saying “Madonna, best f**king live act? F*** off!”
Madonna remarked backstage, “I hope he speaks to me for the next couple of years. He’s known to get mad at me. He’s brilliant and I adore him. He’ll win another award so I don’t feel bad!”
