With some tough convincing, Mark was able to talk his parents into buying him his first saxophone for school band when he was 11-years-old, and so began his journey into a professional musician. Coming a long way from his first gig in a strip club at the age of 13 with his first band “Future Phase,” Mark has since graced the stage as a captivating solo artist with some of the biggest acts in music.
He took a chance as a senior in high school to audition for all city jazz band for a scholarship, and even when he thought he dreams were crushed after coming on the wrong date, the teachers let him in because of his amazing talents. He later won a scholarship to Texas Southern where he studied music and turned his passion into a profession.
That experience taught Mark a valuable life lesson to never give up on your dreams even when faced with rejection.
“Keep pursuing whatever it is that you desire and always take that opportunity to just go forth. When you see it, do it…just keep going at it,” said Mark.
This philosophy enabled Mark to get out into the world and experience once in a lifetime opportunities like traveling the world with track and field Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis who sang for his band and being part of the flourishing music scene in Los Angeles.
He has a reputation for being able to play just about anything and bring the house down as a party band, but his songwriting also stands up to his amazing playing abilities. But don’t take our word for it, see it for yourself live in person this Thursday at Marbella and catch this “Panther” prowl the stage with his sleek and smooth presence!
