Phil Collins Re-Prioritizes His Life

Former [lastfm]Genesis[/lastfm] singer [lastfm]Phil Collins[/lastfm] is an international name with the GRAMMYs, Golden Globes and an Academy Award under his belt. But despite the success of his career, during a recent interview the 59-year-old admitted he would do things differently in retrospect.

The three-time married London native admitted his love life was greatly affected by the lifestyle he lead due to his demanding music career, which included constant touring.

In the 70s, [lastfm]Genesis[/lastfm] did three American tours a year, three European ones and a trip to Japan. My first wife, Andrea, told me if I toured like that, the marriage wouldn’t last. When I got back, she’d left me. If I’d known touring would cost me so dearly, I wouldn’t have done it.

Having learned from his past experiences, the singer says he now focuses on spending time with his two sons from his third marriage to Orianne Cevey, a translator he was married to for nearly seven years before divorcing in 2007.

I’m happy being at home. I’ve said yes to things all my life. Now I’m learning to say no. I stay in Switzerland, as Orianne is there, and we share the care of the two boys.

Of being single, but in a relationship with Dana Tyler, the senior news anchor and reporter at New York City’s WCBS-TV, Collins said:

I’m not totally happy being on my own, though. I’d rather still be married and I think Orianne feels the same. She’s re-married, but we have a fantastic relationship. I get on well with all my ex-wives. They also get along with each other and my girlfriend. It’s a picture I never thought I’d see, but it works well.

And while the famous singer may not like being on his own, don’t expect him to take a fourth trip down the aisle with his girlfriend anytime soon.

Will we get married? I don’t think so. I have a commitment, but I don’t see the point. I don’t like being away from Switzerland and the boys for too long.

They say hindsight is 20/20, but for someone who said he wouldn’t have toured as much after his first marriage if he knew it would cost him “so dearly” and then managed to go through two more marriages, perhaps it’s best that he just not get married again at all—especially considering his last wife walked away with a cool $46.76 million in their divorce settlement.

That’s one way of paying your wife back for not being there due to constant touring. Although, it can’t be said the women didn’t know what kind of life he lead. He is a world-famous musician, after all!
